Texas
God, I love Texas. The food, the people, the fishing, the weather, everything. The coast, the lakes, the rivers, the wild flowers, the hills. Texas is god’s country, no doubt about it. Maybe it’s because I now live in New Jersey. Maybe it’s because it’s where I’m from, where I was born, and where my family calls home (half of it anyway). Who knows…. all I know is I love that fucking place. Yeeee haaaaaaa. Every time I go back, it makes it that much harder to leave again. Who knows, maybe I’ll find myself back there one day. Time will tell.
The wife and I went down to spend some time with my grandparents, who were celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary. We stayed at a sweet rental house on Canyon Lake about 10 minutes from the dam that’s releases make trout fishing a real possibility in Texas. I really didn’t get to fish too much, but I did spend a little bit of time on the water and caught a few fish. Nothing good. Most my time was spent gorging myself on Mexican food and Shiner Bock.
I wet waded the freezing Guadalupe to catch a few trout. When I went to take a picture of this guy, my lens was all fogged up from the temperature change from my pocket to the warm Texas air. The trout I was catching weren’t much to look at, but hey, it’s a trout in Texas. I caught a few little guys before it was time for me to get back to drinking.
A picture of a little bass I caught in front of the lake house. The water in the lake was still cold and crystal clear. If I had more time, I would have rented a boat and searched the lake for some of the hybrid stripers it holds.
One of the many deer that came up to the back porch of the lake house.
